THE BEATLEMANIA TO BTS PIpeline

Kpop has become a worldwide phenomenon, bringing with it a unique form of stan culture, decorated photo cards and choreographed dances. Boy and girl groups are in again with a predominantly younger feminine fanbase that is often undervalued in society. Meanwhile the Beatles are lauded as an all time classic band (rightfully so), credited for innovating 60s music. But back then, things weren't so different. Beatlemania inspired fangirlism on similar levels to famous kpop groups as well as boygroups in the 90s & 2000s. The members sported matching mop haircuts and suits, and each was marketed with a certain persona to appeal to their female fans. What if the Beatles had access to the best kpop marketers in the industry? What would their version of kpop album inclusions look like? This is the Magical Mystery Tour reimagined as a Y2K hyperpop collage style thats been revitalised in the kpop industry.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PLAY IN DESIGN

Approaching this project I overwhelmed myself trying to create hidden meanings and symbolism, but the layouts started to really bloom once I leaned into the concept of play in design. It can be easy to fall into a hole of over-planning and analyzing so letting yourself be spontaneous once in a while is really freeing.
